It's A Beautiful Day
Friday, March 6, 2009 at 1:00AM I was tickled pink (or should I say yellow?) when Laura Grier of Beautiful Day Photography submitted this wedding to LA Style Unveiled. Not only are the photographs GORGEOUS, but the details are unique and inspiring. Mimi and Scott were married on August 23, 2008 at the Figueroa Mountain Farmhouse in Los Olivos. Laura was kind enough to share about this beautiful day:
Q: What made this wedding so much fun to photograph?
A: This wedding was SO amazing. It was simple, rustic, they brought in a huge BBQ grill and the groomsmen made mint julips and just aimed the chairs at the sunset and voila! Instant amazing setting. You could see EVERY star in the sky at night. Some of the guests were just sitting in the field looking up at the sky during the reception. Also, they had a goat bring the rings down the aisle and the bride and groom were so happy and willing to be fun and play around for the photos. We have become good friends since this wedding:)
Q: What do you love most about being a wedding photographer?
A: What I love about being a wedding photographer is that I am part of the pinnacle of someone's life. It should be one of the happiest most beautiful days of someone's life and I get to meet their family and to see people so in love all of the time. It is inspiring. There are not many times in people's lives that everyone they love and care about come together for an event and it always creates interesting dynamics between people. I find it very interesting. I think I can be my most creative while shooting weddings and it is challenging and sometimes like problem solving, but it makes getting that perfect image even MORE exceptional, because you have such little control over the light, location and what is happening. It is never boring or dull. ALSO, the obvious...I get to travel to exotic locations. It is like a combination of all of my passions in one and they are SO appreciative of you being there. It's a very fullfilling career.

Q: What advice can you give our readers who are having trouble finding their perfect wedding photographer?
A: I guess that personality is equally as important as their work. This is a person that will be having a relationship with you for almost two years... minimum, between the engagement shoot, the wedding day and putting together their album. This person will be with you during some of your most intimate moments, meeting your family and having to make you feel comfortable enough to shoot you... Obviously, the art and their style is always what will bring you to their door, but when it comes to a deciding factor... I would really see if your photographer is someone you can relate to. Because if that person understands you better it will show in the photos. We are a unique wedding vendor, because we don't just show up do our job and leave. There is so much more of a personal element to what we do. Also, read their BLOG... it can help you get to know your photographer and their personality better.

Do you want a wedding similar to Mimi and Scott's? I don't blame you!! Besides having a fabulous and talented photographer, some of their wedding vendors included: Flowers by Ambient Events, rentals brought in by Classic Party Rentals, and shuttle services by Roadrunner Shuttle. The bride wore Monique Lhuillier and the groom's suit was by Paul Smith and he wore a tie by Dolce and Gabbana.
